Jeremiah L. Mowrey, aged 65 years and five months, died in his home at Emerickville on Tuesday, November 24 at 9:30 P.M. after an illness of only a week following a stroke of paralysis.
Mr. Mowrey, one of the best known and highly respected citizens of the locality in which he resided, was born in Ringgold Township, Jefferson County on July 24, 1844. He was married in Emerickville in December 1862 to Miss Salome Doney, of Emerickville. To this union 14 children were born, nine of whom survive with the widow.The children are Lizzie, wife of Benj. Kerstetter, of Gowen City; George, of Shamokin; Maggie, wife of Charles Zimmerman, of Emerickville; Katie, wife of Charles Mohney, of Vandergrift; Ida, wife of Roe London, Canton, O.; Nellie, wife of Joseph Mattern, Kingston; Alice, wife of John Ohls, at home; Edna, wife of Wallace Kerstetter and Bess, wife of Guy Wallace, Canton, O. Fifty-six grandchildren and 86 great-grandchildren also survive as does one sister, Mrs. William Kane.
Mr. Mowrey was a Civil War veteran, having served in Company B, 57th Infantry. In politics he was a steadfast Democrat although he never served in public office. He was a faithful member of the Methodist church.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcopal church in Emerickville at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 28, with Rev. Mr. Shaffer, the pastor, in charge. Six grandsons acted as pall bearers. Interment was in Emerickville cemetery.

L. Endres, Cleveland Endres, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Richards and family, Mrs. John Pfaff and Fred Pfaff, all of Brookville, and Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Doney, of Rossiter.
