Joseph Clay Argo, third son of J. B. and Charity Argo, was born near McMinnville, Tennessee, March 18, 1861, of Scotch-Irish descent. In 1889 he was married to Miss Mattie J. Pratt, who was a member of the One Body. Though he was a member of the Methodist church, his wife taught him the truth and he became a Christian November 1892. Soon after he became a Christian he began to assist in the public work of the church. Though a farmer, he was a dilligent ‎[diligent]‎ student, and soon became quite conversant with the teaching of the Bible. He is doing much good as a preacher of the faith once for all delivered to the saints. His ability is recognized where he is known. --Gospel Preachers Who Blazed The Trail, C.R. Nichol, 1911.
